I HAVE WHAT I NEED

DSC06519

The conversation started with quite an interested comment from one of our boys. “I don’t need money. I don’t need to be rich or even famous. I have you. And because I have you, I have a home, food, clothes, a Playstation, a nice warm bed, and I cats and goats. That is all I need. If I didn’t have you, I wouldn’t have any of those things!”

Jesus never instructed us to build our own kingdoms, but to invest in His Kingdom. When I spend time with some of my friendships from the past twenty years, it quickly becomes obvious in what they invest their time, money, and lives. It is clear what is most important to them. Some invest in a hobby or a sport. Others invest in their families or friendships. Some shock me at the way they waste all that God has given them; many do not follow Christ, so their investments of course are not about Him.

But this leads me to the questions I am always asked when I travel.
“Why on earth do you do what you do?”
“What do you get out of it?”
“When do you plan on quitting and starting a normal life?”
“How on earth will you retire if you don’t have any money?”

These questions, independently, say a lot about a person’s view of life.   But, the answer is simple. I don’t invest in my life. I invest my life in the lives of others, to further His Kingdom. It has never been my intention to build my own “Markville”. Everything that I administer is His and will continue being His long after I’ve stepped into eternity. The Bible says to “Seek first His Kingdom, and everything else will fall into place”.

Matthew 30-34 “If God gives such attention to the appearance of wildflowers—most of which are never even seen—don’t you think he’ll attend to you, take pride in you, do his best for you? What I’m trying to do here is to get you to relax, to not be so preoccupied with getting, so you can respond to God’s giving.
People who don’t know God and the way he works fuss over these things, but you know both God and how he works. Steep your life in God-reality, God-initiative, God-provisions. Don’t worry about missing out. You’ll find all your everyday human concerns will be met. “Give your entire attention to what God is doing right now, and don’t get worked up about what may or may not happen tomorrow. God will help you deal with whatever hard things come up when the time comes. [The Message Bible]

Father God. I don’t need money. I don’t need to be rich or even famous. I have you. And because I have you, I have a home, food, clothes, a working computer, a nice warm bed, and I cats and goats. I’m blessed to have a home FULL of wonderful sons that I get to raise. That is all I need. If I didn’t have you, I wouldn’t have any of those things!”

Greetings! Sharon and I had a great visit with Mark and the boys in early August. We were able to stay in the completed Guest House and enjoy the beautiful weather in Huehuetenango.

We want to share with you some of the plans for the Youth Ranch we are beginning to raise funds for. These projects will allow Mark to better minister to the young men. We appreciate how faithful you have been in supporting this ministry and ask you to pray for these needs.

Mark has been working on plans for expansion of the Ranch House and facilities. Two projects are needed to help with the day to day operation of the ranch – expanding the kitchen to facilitate greater food preparation area and improving the water supply to the kitchen. Cost is projected at $20,000.

The second is a new wing of rooms for the older boys to have a feeling of “graduating” into a more personal living space. This addition will also provide more educational space in the main house. Cost is projected at $18,000.
